Creative Market is the First All GPL Licensed WordPress Theme Marketplace

Congratulations to Creative Marketplace for being the first WordPress marketplace to go 100% GPL with their licenses.  The GPL license basically allows for free sharing and editing of WordPress themes.  WordPress.org has made a move to have theme developers move to this licensing and I think it’s awesome to see this happening.

Interestingly there were some theme developers had to make some changes to their licensing (or decide that they didn’t want to), but I’m glad to see that a number of them did.

Congrats again to Creative Market, everyone go buy some GPL themes!

  1. I am quite please but surprised by this move. I think it’s a nice example on how to have a shop selling GPL material, since often GPL is associated with ‘free as beer’.

    Lets make money with Open Source! 😉
